This weekend is theOrleans County Open Tournament(June 12-13) with the King of the Oak (KOTO) on Friday (6/11). The weather is a changing again according to the near term forecast, with above freezing temps expected day and night starting about Wed/ Thu and lasting at least thru the begin part of next week. Flows are mod or almost med and mostly clear. After a cold night last night, look for a further drop in flows all around and clearing water color. Josh Dunkelburger of Olcott reports some walleye and carp were being caught off the NYPA fishing platform this week. A little stain, something like 2 ft of visibility. Flows in the Oak are staying high with some stubborn overflow water that should be receding by about today leaving just the full cranking turbine flows. Walleye fishing has been good on the Niagara Bar. A few guys report their hookups include at least one real good big fish. The other area smaller tribs have good looking med and slightly stained flows for now and likewise should be dropping back toward mod or lower and clearer. Flows in the Oak are slightly high with something now approaching 2 feet of viz. Warmer temps near 70F are in the forecast for the weekend. Any new precipitation could likewise bring those flows back up and dirty. Some rain showers and gloom and breezy conditions today (Tuesday). Flows in the Oak down just a touch, maybe some of that love from Canal water being shared with Johnson Creek is responsible for that. That sounds like a receipe for fresh fish migrations in all the waterways and the chance for brown trout and steelhead hook ups!
